About

The Pre-Academy Training Program is an 11-hour online training program designed to give newly hired Louisiana law enforcement officers and deputies a practical foundation in the legal principles, enforcement concepts, and decision-making skills they will need before entering the academy and beginning field training. The transition into law enforcement can be overwhelming. New officers are expected to quickly understand constitutional law, criminal offenses, use of force, traffic enforcement, vehicle searches, drug identification, report articulation, and the legal limits of their authority. This program introduces those concepts early, allowing recruits to arrive at the academy with a working vocabulary and foundational understanding of the subjects they will encounter throughout their training. Rather than focusing solely on memorization, STRATVOS emphasizes practical application. Students learn not only what the law says, but how officers use it in real-world encounters, how enforcement decisions should be made, and how those decisions must later be articulated and documented. The program includes instruction in: - Legal Aspects – 4.5 Hours (plus quizzes) - Elements of Crimes: Top 15 Most Common Offenses – 1.5 Hours (plus quizzes) - Integrated Use of Force – 2 Hours (plus quizzes) - Pretext Stops – 1.5 Hours - Drug Identification – 1 Hour
